The Story Behind Zen Sen

For 16 years, wood has passed through my hands as I crafted kalimbas in my workshop. Over the years, I was left with countless beautiful offcuts. Even during cold winters in the Tatra Mountains, I could never bring myself to burn them. They felt far too precious for that.

I believe that when we work with wood with care, craftsmanship, and love, we give something back to the tree. We offer it gratitude and a second life to become part of something meaningful—a bridge between nature, human touch, and presence. And in return, the wood grants us calm, focus, and humility.

Instead of letting these beautiful pieces go to waste, the idea for Zen Sen was born: hand-crafted wooden balancing stones inspired by Japanese Zen principles—attention, balance, patience, and learning to work with mistakes.

Each stone is carefully hand-oiled. Through this process, we touch different native wood species, observe their unique grain, and naturally slow down.

The reward is not just a beautiful object. It is the quiet feeling after all the effort: I did it.

In this special edition, we decided to touch the wood even more gently using Stockmar watercolor paints. Watercolors do not hide the soul of the wood, instead, they allow its unique grain and growth rings to shine through. Painting with watercolors on linden wood is pure alchemy: the moisture naturally raises the wood fibers. That is why every single Zen Sen stone is hand-sanded surface by surface after painting until a perfectly smooth, silky finish is achieved.

How to Play & Use

• No rules, just focus: Stack them by size, explore their centers of gravity, or build improbable balance towers.
• Tactile experience: Smoothly sanded and treated with line oil to preserve the authentic scent, warmth, and grain of pure wood.
• For play or display: Zen Sen serves as an intuitive focus toy for your desk, an activity to share with family, or a clean, natural element in your space.
